For two days, I’ve been under stress. Too much work to do? No, That’s not an explanation for my depress. Actually, the truth is on the other side of that answer. No work to do. I mean, there are many things I have to deal with, but the situation is banning me to do my job. Well, this is a very technical issue, so you might be hard to understand. I will try to make it clear to the man having no technical background.
I’ve been developing a game program, which may be not you expected. This game software I’m involved is not what you can see. This software is called the online game server and this is sort of an infrastructure for the online game like World of Warcraft. It has no beautiful user interface and it is kind of only-for-developers uses.
Actually, developing the server is somewhat fun but this job has also a difficult aspect. Writing a code is so sophisticated work and developers usually share their codes with the other one. I think this sharing makes this work hard. You should be very careful when you write or modify the code, otherwise you or your colleagues will suffer from your mistake. The problem is that it’s not easy to realize your mistake when you make it. Even a week being passed, anyone doesn’t realized. This always happens.
So, what should I do? Just watching the suffering and making a sigh? No, we are professional engineers. We’ve been made the detection system to identify defects as soon as possible. This makes our job easier. At least, this system prevent the problem to spread out all over the software.
Unfortunately, this system is not perfect. As you know, there is no perfect system in the world. Only God could make a perfect one. These days, the limit of our system makes me feel sick. Every one of my team are writing their own new codes and changing the existing ones. For that reason, whenever I try to test a new functionality, it just doesn’t work. Not-detected-logical-bugs make me irritated. I want my code to be tested but even the functionality worked fine yesterday doesn’t work today. I can’t do anything now. Just reporting and waiting. No fun at all, really!
