Catalyst™ Software Suite Version 8.10 Release Notes This release note provides information onthe latest posting of AMD’s industry leading software suite, Catalyst™. This particular software suite updates both the AMD Display Driver,and the Catalyst™ Control Center. This unified driver has been furtherenhanced to provide the highest level of power, performance, andreliability. The AMD Catalyst™ software suite is the ultimate inperformance and stability.

  • ATI All-in-Wonder™ boards operate with AMD’sWindows Vista ready display and capture drivers under the Windows Vistaoperating system. However, the Windows Vista Media Center applicationdoes not support TV/Capture functionality provided by the ATIAll-in-Wonder™ . TV/Capture functionality is qualified to function withSnaptream’s BeyondTV 4.6 for Windows Vista. Other third party solutions(such as Arcsoft’s Total Media 3) may support TV/Capture with the ATIAll-in-Wonder™ , but these applications have not been fully tested byAMD.

Operating systems supported

The latest version of the Catalyst™ software suite is designed to support the following Microsoft Windows platforms:

  • Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit versions)
  • Windows XP Professional
  • Windows XP Home Edition
  • Windows XP Media Center Edition
  • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

    • When installing the Catalyst™ Vista driverfor Windows Vista, the user must logged on as an Administrator or haveAdministrator rights in order to successfully complete the installationof the Catalyst™ Vista driver.

New Features

This section provides information on newfeatures found in this release of the Radeon™ Display Driver. Theseinclude the following:

Catalyst Control Center™ Fan speed control

This release of the ATI software driverversion 8.54 introduces the ability for users to control the speed ofthe GPU fan when running in accelerated graphics.

Force Component Video Detection

This release allows users the option inCatalyst Control Center to force Component Video detection in theDisplay Options aspect. By selecting this option user are able toadjust the Component Video property settings (without a device beingphysically attached) allowing user to change format and frequency to adesired value. The selected values will be applied to the display oncea component video display device get connected. The feature isapplicable for all AMD products supporting Component Video.

 

Resolved Issues for the Windows Vista Operating System

This section provides information onresolved issues in this release of the ATI Catalyst™ Software Suite forWindows Vista. These include:

  • Some video corruption might be noticed whenplaying certain Blu-ray titles. Further details can be found in topicnumber 737-38293
  • Disconnecting an HDMI display device duringDVD playback may result in Windows Vista failing to respond. Furtherdetails can be found in topic number 737-38308
  • Flickering may occur on the primary displaywhen two dual link displays are used. Further details can be found intopic number 737-38295
  • Playing some video file formats underWindows Media Player 11 can cause a time delay response. Furtherdetails can be found in topic number 737-38926.
  • City of Villains: Flashing observed in thegame when super AA is enabled in Catalyst Control Center and theresolution is at 2560×1600. Further details can be found in topicnumber 737-38301
  • When desktop rotation enabled in OS:VistaGreek some text is cutoff in the default monitor.Further details can befound in topic number 737-38302
  • Performing an express un-install of thedisplay driver on some ATI Radeon HD 48×0 series devices, mayintermittently result in the display device failing to display animage. Further details can be found in topic number 737-38308

Resolved Issues for the Windows XP Operating System

This section provides information onresolved issues in this release of the ATI Catalyst™ Software Suite forWindows XP. These include:

  • Catalyst Control Center Avivo Gamma controlfails to function when playing a DVD using MS Windows Media Player orCyberlink PowerDVD player. Further details can be found in topic number737-28294
  • Opening Catalyst Control Center whileplaying back a HD/SD title with Cyberlink will cause display to goblank. Further details can be found in topic number 737-38305

Known Issues Under the Windows Vista Operating System

This section provides information on knownissues that may be experienced under the Windows Vista operating systemwith the latest version of Catalyst™ . These include:

  • Some video can become corrupt after randomseek using the Cyberlink player. Further details can be found in topicnumber 737-38297
  • Enabling Catalyst Control Center AA-4x andFilter-Edge detect settings can cause some video corruption in OpenGLapplications. Further details can be found in topic number 737-38304

Known Issues Under the Windows XP Operating System

The following section provides a summary ofopen issues that may be experienced under the Windows XP operatingsystem in the latest version of Catalyst™ . These include:

  • Color corruption can occur when playing someinterlaced contents without having Catalyst Control Center installed.Further details can be found in topic number 737-38299
