Eric Steven Raymond is on the top of my admirable person list. Several explanations will help you understand the reason why I have respect for him. First of all, he is a best teacher you can get. He has taught people by his remarks and writings. For instance, He introduced the model of a good programmer, which is well known as ‘Hacker’, in his writing ‘How To Become A Hacker’. This is the very classic essay of computer science from which many people get his advice.
In addition, Eric Raymond has great passion for working, studying, and taking an adventure. Despite his hardworking, he has been putting his effort into ‘open source’ projects, which no one ever dares to do. Now, ‘open source’ projects are grown heavily and still growing. It is of course impossible without him.
However, the most respectful part of him is his good sense of making a breakthrough in the area of software engineering. As it were, he is a man of insight. He has not only knowledge of his own major but also of sociology. Additionally, he is able to think philosophically. With all of these, he has written the great works. Whenever I read his masterpieces, I am surprised by his vision.
